Right now, I am planning to buy a new Proc / RAM / Mobo.
I just recently sold my loyal e8400, my 4GB ram. Then my mobo + modem got fried by Belkin and they are compensating both of them for RM880. ![]() So right now, I'm in a dilemma to upgrade my PC with new stuff. AMD Phenom II 955 / Core i5-750 DDR3 Ram Mobo depends on Proc. CM 690 II or Centurion 5 II First of all, AMD is a 'bang-for-buck' proc as to compare to Core i-5. I would have to spend less on the proc and also the motherboard. But the downside would be the slight performance boost from Core i5 and also the P55 chipset that enables crossfireX / SLI bridge. Since I'm not planning into using Dual-GPU, I'm sticking to AMD for more cheaper solution. That way, i can spend money on DDR3, new casing, motherboard and probably a new monitor as well. I'm also in a tight position to choose either CM 690 II or Centurion 5 II casing. So what do you guys think? Share your opinion here. |

Most mainstream P55 mobos support CF out-of-the-box. If you need SLI, you'll have to pay a little more, around RM100-200. If you intend to only have one GPU, take a look at Asus' M series of mobos like the Asus P7P55-M which only has a single PCIE. The price is around RM300+ which is half of the mainstream offerings. Of course, you'll miss out on some of the future-proof stuff like USB3.0 and SATA 6GB.
I don't know about AMD, but Core i-series has a built-in turbo mode that overclocks the CPU itself when u need it. Alvin/Teq would be able to give you feedback as they're using it. All i know is, the Core series kicks ass. Teq bought the CM690 II and I think it looks very nice for a steel case. Can't speak for Centurion 5 though since I haven't seen it myself. You'd want to think about air circulation, removable filters, wire management, and the overall look that appeal to you. |

The H55 chipset is a promising stuff like USB 3.0 and Sata 6GB. So is
AMD 890Gx chipset.
If i'm not mistaken, the P55 chipset actually supports BOTH SLI and CF. The dark side would be the pricing for the core and the motherboard for P55 and what's even more for H55 chipset mobo. Whereas for the AMD chipset mobo wise, I'm paying about RM510 for good ones that supports USB3.0 and Sata 6GB ![]() Not to mention, there'll be a boost for gaming if I were to use AMD core + ATI card. More reviews about the AMD890GX chipset. http://www.techspot.com/review/252-asus-m4a89gtd-amd-890gx/ Edited by keatsan - 04 - May - 2010 at 5:46pm |

Not getting monitor. Just mainly proc + Ram + mobo. Casing would be the least problem.
Intel is expensive, and tend to upgrade very fast. Short lifespan especially for 1156 socket. Can anyone tell me what would intel come out 1366 then quickly release 1156 socket? There would be new socket replacing soon. It should be socket 2011 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGA_2011 For the long run, Intel would be a high investment. (unless i'm rich) *I think i'm just gonna spend the least money on 6 cores (Phenom X6 1055T) RM610 from PC Zone and cheaper than Core i5-750. It's not the performance issue but instead bang for bucks. Perhaps I'll fork out more money onto nicer casing and if budget allows, may as well get a new HD monitor. :) Edited by keatsan - 05 - May - 2010 at 11:13pm |

Just to let you know that MOST of the processor price on the lowyat price list are usually bundling price, which means you have to get a whole set of computer in order to get that price, So as for 1055T the price would be rm630 something if you're just getting one only, or with mobo and some stuffs, depends on the seller.

Haha. No worries, I confirmed my price liao with Bong. Ex-Cycom worker shift to Viewnet. Luckily I support him, so he can give me good pricing. So far, I've decided. Phenom II X6 1055T - RM610 Motherboard most probably 880G series chipset RM400-RM450 Kingston RAM DDR3 1333 2GB x 2 = RM200 (lowyat 2nd hand) HAF 922 casing 2 months old = RM290

Bought liao. Except Proc and Mobo! Earlier this morning, I COD for my DDR3 ram and the HSF 922. And to my surprise, the owner actually add 2 more fans to the HSF 922 and change the stock fan to be better ones. All for only RM290. I'll upload photo of the casing later this evening. *excited*

The casing is really epic. Not to mention airflow, is just strong. I decided to bought Core i5 and Gigabyte P55-USB3L. RM664 + RM460. Quite a good deal I would say. Using Credit Card to pay. Why I chose core i5? Simple, daily usage. I'm not heavy multi-tasking/multi-threading user that requires 6 cores. For daily uses, core i5 pwns AMD. ![]() Edited by keatsan - 10 - May - 2010 at 5:56pm |
